![]() Pre-1st is an academic setting designed to provide children an extra year of growth and maturity before first grade. A child may be recommended to pre-first by a teacher for social, maturity, and/or academic reasons. Children who are young compared to their peers, and/or did not have a pre-school experience, and/or demonstrated immature behaviors compared to peers of similar age are commonly considered for pre-1st. A specific process has been established to collect and review information to help guide the discussion and decision process with the principal, teacher and parents. Parents/guardians do not have to accept a Pre-1st recommendation. Pre-1st classrooms are located within specific buildings within our district. Oliver Heckman Elementary do not currently house a pre-1st class. Therefore, pre-1st students from Oliver Heckman would be required to attend a different school during the pre-1st year. |
