ARRIVAL TO AND FROM SCHOOL
If the children walk or are transported to school by their parents, they should not arrive before 8:55 AM, when adult supervision in the school begins. All children who arrive between 8:35 and 8:50 may go directly to their classrooms, or stop at the cafeteria to pick up a brown-bagged breakfast and take it to their homeroom. Any child arriving after 8:50 is considered tardy and must be bought to the school office by his/her parents to be signed in. Please park your car in a designated spot, and walk your child to the office to sign him/her in.
Doors open at 8:55 AM
*Students who arrive after 9:10 AM are tardy and parents must bring them to the office to be admitted.
From previous newsletters and information shared at PTO meetings, you know that the Lower South staff is making a concerted effort to increase daily attendance and prompt arrival at school. The following information is based on Board Policy #552 and pertains to students in grades K-4:
Children are expected to be in their classrooms at 9:10 am.
Any student arriving after 9:10 am must be signed in at the school office by a parent or guardian.
All cases of early dismissal should be preceded by a note from the parent stating the time, date and reason for dismissal.
A student who leaves school prior to 10:30 am and does not return will be considered full-day absent.
When a student arrives after 9:10 am but before 10:30 am, they will be marked as tardy
A student arriving after 10:30 am will be marked as 1/2 day absent.
A student who leaves before 12:55 pm is considered 1/2 day absent.
As always, if your child is sick (fever, vomiting, diarrhea, severe headache, etc) we expect him/her to be kept home. A note of explanation must be sent to your child's teacher within three days of the day he/she returns to school. Teachers will provide make-up work that must be completed in a timely fashion. They will also make every effort to give your child any test that was missed during his/her absence.
